Calculate the fee on a payment amount
Fee = round(payment × rate + fixed fee, currency precision). Net receipt = payment − fee. Use the percentage as a decimal, such as 0.03 for 3%.

Selected fee type: 3.49% + USD 0.49
Receiving availability: Receiving availability for this account market and payment product has not been verified. Figures are fee references, not confirmation that your account can accept payments.
For a US domestic USD PayPal Checkout payment at 3.49% + USD 0.49, PayPal deducts USD 3.98 from $100 and the merchant receives USD 96.02. This is a Checkout example, not a single rate for every PayPal payment: the payment product and receiving market determine which fee applies.

Choose the account market and actual payment product. These formulas apply to a percentage-plus-fixed-fee rule without a minimum, cap or amount band. For a target net, select the receive-after-fees mode, enter the net you want and read the amount to charge. Invoice payments use the separate invoice calculator and the customer’s payment method.

Initial gross estimate = (target net + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − rate). Recalculate in the currency’s smallest unit and choose the smallest payment that reaches the target after rounding. This estimates a total price, not permission for a separate PayPal surcharge; check the applicable account agreement.
Round half up to the currency’s precision: two decimal places for USD, zero for JPY. Minimum fees, caps, tiers and amount bands require their own rule calculation, not just the simple formula. A pre-tax net estimate excludes applicable tax on fees.
